Key Biscayne is an island paradise. In addition to long stretches of sandy beaches, there are also beautiful parks set at both ends of the island. Considering its vacation island reputation, it’s unsurprising that many of the residences on this unique and modern island are equally superb in their design.
We decided to list some of the most noteworthy architects that have completed projects in the area. Aside from crafting homes that suit Key Biscayne’s climate and architectural styles, these architects also pay careful attention to their client’s wants and consider the project’s function in their client’s lives. Aside from their experience, some of these architects are also affiliated with well-known industry organizations and have been featured in various industry publications.
Fernandez Architecture
25 SE 2nd Ave., Suite 712, Miami, FL 33131
Fernandez Architecture is an architecture and interior design firm that has been around since 2003. Since then the firm has built a reputation for producing spaces that are incredibly artistic and liveable. One great example of this artistic work is the Key Biscayne house. An elegant modern home fit for entertaining guests and designed with sustainable methods, it has panoramic waterfront views alongside its lush landscaping. The home was built with concrete finishings and wooden elements to exemplify the home’s comfort and elegance in a minimalist scheme. The firm has designed many other modern and contemporary homes throughout Florida and Barcelona. These homes were completed with a design approach that focuses on exchanging ideas with the client to understand their motivations and needs for the space. By collaborating with the client and through the use of various tools—from the traditional and innovative, and the knowledge of its team of experts—the firm has been able to create stunning homes that are also eco-friendly and follow the ethics of sustainability.
Currently, these design principles are guided by company founder and executive chairman Joaquin Fernandez. Mr. Fernandez has more than 16 years of industry experience and is known for the restoration and design projects that have contributed to the preservation, maintenance, and update of Catalan Modernism.

Village Architects
104 Crandon Blvd, Ste. #424, Key Biscayne, FL 33149
Since 1992, Village Architects has been impressing Key Biscayne clients with its varied architectural designs. Though the firm’s portfolio has several Mediterranean, modern, and contemporary style homes, the firm’s design approach does not revolve around those classic styles. The firm is most concerned with the unique characteristics of a given project; the firm’s staff feels that replicating a signature style ends up restraining the team rather than letting innovation flourish.
In order to focus and continuously produce these unique homes, the firm accepts a limited amount of projects per year and involves its principals in each project. Over the years, the firm has received a number of features from various industry publications, such as Florida Architecture, City & Shore, Luxury Home, and Luxe Interiors + Design.
