The coastal city of Pacifica is a picturesque place to call home. The unique terrain also offers a lot of opportunities for outdoor recreation: surfing, fishing at Pacifica Pier, and hiking and mountain biking on the hillside trails.

If you are planning to settle down in this refreshing spot on the San Francisco Bay, here is a list of the best custom home builders in Pacifica who can help you make the most of the oceanside landscape. All of the firms on this list have spent many years building across San Mateo County.

Build Ur Dream Builders Inc.

833 Mahler Rd. Suite 2, Burlingame, CA 94010

This gray Craftsman home on Truman Avenue in Los Altos features a semi-open layout for its first-floor common spaces. To the left of the white double door main entry is the coffered ceiling living room, which features a ribbon fireplace beside windows that wrap around the corner. To its right is the six-seater white and wood dining set, which also sits at the foot of the stairs to the second floor and faces a window to the backyard. Behind it is the U-shaped white kitchen with stainless steel fixtures and gray brick backsplash. The peninsula bar borders the family room, illuminated by a picture window behind the white couch and sliding doors to the outdoor spaces. Upstairs, the spacious master bedroom has its own sitting area and is also warmed by a ribbon fireplace. One door opens to a walk-in closet, another to the double vanity master bath with a recessed tub and a glass-doored shower against marble tiles. Outside, multiple lounge areas surround the lap pool.

The team behind this home is Build Ur Dream Builders, which has been serving the Bay Area for over 20 years. The firm exceeds its clients’ expectations through the close attention it pays to its projects.

AYA Homes LLC

160 Vasquez Ave. San Francisco, CA 94127

The covered brick front porch of this sprawling ranch on Yellowstone opens to a large open concept living and dining room. The eight-seater wooden dining set sits to the right and provides a great view out the window. Around it are multiple sitting areas. The central living room space features a floor-to-ceiling ribbon fireplace wall, and a black mantle matches the built-in shelves on either side. A long balcony outside the window wall looks out to the beautiful backyard gravel garden. The kitchen sits through a trimmed opening, featuring dark wood cabinets, stainless steel fixtures, and white quartz countertops. The large master bedroom is also surrounded by windows framing views of the green outdoors. Adjacent to it is the double vanity master bath with an alcove double shower and a window-side recessed tub. A more private family room sits in the basement. The balcony covers a deck with a lounge area where one can relax and admire the colorful flowers out back.

This home was built by AYA Homes, led by Shawn Adjari, who established the firm in 2001. Adjari brings 20 years of experience building in Atlanta and Wyoming to the Bay Area.

Verdura Construction

Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

Verdura Construction built this coastal home on Miramar Beach in a cool gray exterior. The varied angles of the vaulted ceilings serve to open up the interior, yet still create a sense of place for each area in the great room on the second floor. The stone tile fireplace anchors the living room, flanked by white built-in cabinets. The TV is mounted above it and stored behind half barn doors. The steep shiplap ceiling falls in a lower pitch above the couch-seat dining area. The coffered ceilings above the kitchen still continue the shiplap motif. White cabinets line its U-shape, with black quartz atop the center island and prep spaces around the stainless steel appliances. The room extends out to a lounge area on the balcony through glass accordion doors. The space features basket-weave couches and its own grill beneath a skylight.

Jamie Verdura has led the firm which has been building throughout the San Mateo coastal region since 2004. The team is composed of San Mateo natives who know the area like the back of their hand and are committed to building sustainably in the coastal community.

Flegel’s Construction

5546 Amby Dr. San Jose, CA 95124

This home in Woodside Hills blends in among the trees thanks to Flegel’s Construction’s use of cedar throughout its two stories. The entrance features exposed rafters and beams. That rustic theme continues above the custom steel-railed deck on the second floor. Stone-cladding supports the ground-floor deck looking over the hills. Inside, cedar also appears in the kitchen cabinetry, with granite topping the center island and the prep spaces and also serving as backsplash behind the range. Recessed lights built into the vaulted ceiling further illuminate the white farmhouse sink beneath the windows. Large cedar beams appear throughout the adjacent dining and living room spaces, with earth-toned accents complementing its deep red hue. There’s also a detached garage and a shop on the property.

President and CEO Scott Flegel leads the team of premier craftsmen who bring over 30 years of experience to serving Silicon Valley. High-quality work and constant communication are staples of the firm’s service.

Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders

11th St. Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94103

The extensive use of cedar siding and polished concrete throughout this 5,400-square-foot home in Los Altos puts a modern minimalist spin on the Northern California ranch style. The main structure and its guesthouse creates two courtyards: a lush landscaped entry in the front, and a large expanse of green running alongside a long lap pool in the back. The flowing layout kitchen, dining, and living room open to an outdoor patio warmed by the firepit facing the backyard, where there is also an outdoor kitchen with a bread/pizza oven. Shelves line the length of the hallway to house the owner’s large collection of books. The project won the 2017 AIA Housing Award for One- and Two-Family Custom Residences.

The home was built by Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders, a firm established by Daniel Matarozzi and Danny Pelsinger in 1986. Matarozzi and Pelsinger remain hands-on with every project the firm has built since, including many other architecturally complex residences. The firm also builds light commercial spaces throughout the Bay Area.
