As one of the oldest settlements in the country, New Hyde Park is a historic village with vestiges of the past that come alive thanks to the homes found in the area. The enduring value of older, more traditional styles is evident in the homes in this village, where a large percentage of the land is in use for single-family residences.

These historical and classic homes were designed by the best residential architects in New Hyde Park, New York, whom we have compiled into this list. These architects were chosen by our editorial team based on their strong background, local experience, and ability to design homes that suit the appearances and functions of the historical communities they belong to.

Anthony S. Di Properzio

499 Jericho Turnpike, Mineola, NY 11501

Recognized as a leader within the architectural community, Anthony S. Di Properzio, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), is a design firm that has been serving the private and public sectors of the construction industry since its inception in 1976. The result of a merger among three highly successful architectural firms, the company today thrives on the recognition it has received from various industry organizations such as the AIA, the Council for Unity, and the Italian Charities of America.

One example of the firm’s work on a residential project is this Georgian Colonial Home. The viewer’s attention is immediately drawn to the portico with a terrace supported by four grand and crisp white columns. Symmetrical double-hung windows dot the brick face of the home and parts of its minimal landscaping spikes up to the second story of the structure. Two dormer windows and two brick chimneys sit atop the gabled roof, adding to the home’s classic and charming appearance.

Matthew Korn Architecture

1047 OId Northern Boulevard, Roslyn, NY 11576

Matthew Korn Architecture is a design-oriented architectural firm helmed by its namesake, Matthew Korn, AIA.  The firm creates thoughtful and inspired residential spaces and new homes. It also provides commercial spaces and offers interior design services, including furniture, millwork and trim, and all interior finishes. A collaborative practice, the firm is proud of its long-term relationships with talented artisans, who help ensure that a project meets quality standards, and more importantly, the client’s needs.

A great example of the firm’s work is this home above. The home has a grand colonial-style façade, including a portico with a terrace supported by square columns, symmetrical window groupings, double-hung windows with dark shutters, and dormer windows. But from behind, the home is even more impressive, expanding horizontally into an L-shape. Inside, the home features many spacious areas for large gatherings or entertainment purposes. Of course, the homeowners can also enjoy the large home for themselves as there is plenty of space for each of the household members’ needs and desires.

James A. Prisco

60 MacDonald Avenue, Amityville, NY 11701

James A. Prisco is a full-service architecture firm dedicated to the design of new residences, home additions, and commercial buildings. In addition to these services, the firm also sub specializes in the interior architectural design of restaurants and the food industry. The firm is led by its namesake, James Prisco, whose over thirty-year professional experience includes working as an apprentice draftsman and in-house architect. He finally established his own practice and served on the board of the AIA Long Island chapter. Interestingly, James was also the architectural on-set consultant to the production staff of a major motion picture, “Demolition” which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and was directed by Jean-Marc Vallee.

One example of the firm’s work is this split-level home on Atlantic Beach. The split-level style has remained a popular style for homeowners since the 1950s. For this home, the mixed material sidings of clapboard and stone serve to delineate between the levels of the home. The combination of textures gives the home a rustic look that comes together with the balcony and front porch to give the home an open and airy feel, reminiscent of living in the countryside.

Pictured above is an example of the firm’s work on a residential project. This private residence in Williston Park involved a complete renovation of the existing residence. The result was a stately home with a charming brick exterior. The home’s front entryway has a portico with a roof that offers a grand entrance to the home’s occupants and guests. Its side entrance is equally grand, with another portico and roof flanked by vibrant green plantings. From any angle, it is evident that the home was afforded much care and attention to detail by 2mb Architectural Studios, P. C., resulting in a beautiful home with an impressive curb appeal.
