SHELTER Custom-Built Living

895 Island Park Dr, Ste 203, Daniel Island, SC 29492

SHELTER Custom-Built Living is a locally owned and operated practice that has won countless industry accolades since its founding. These distinctions include several Multi-Prism Awards, as well as features in publications like Charleston Home+Design, Architectural Digest, and Charleston Style&Design. The firm makes use of an excellent and comprehensive design-build process, which allows it to keep everything in-house. This ensures that clients do not have to look for and contract additional subcontractors and professionals for their projects.

At the firm’s helm is owner Ryan Butler, a second-generation builder who got his first glimpse into the industry through his father, a highly experienced builder. Ryan worked for his father’s custom home building company while growing up, gaining much of his experience and knowledge from his father. Butler holds a degree in construction management from Bowling Green State University, later working for John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, one of the Souths premier homebuilders after college. He quickly became the vice president of construction in Charleston, SC and became the youngest in company history to hold this position. Ryan enjoys the challenge of matching his building expertise with the dreams and needs of every client.

Structures Building Company

899 Island Park Dr, Ste 101, Daniel Island, SC 29492

Structures Building has provided its clients with a wide array of construction solutions since 1999, and has since then secured a solid reputation for its excellent work. In fact, its homes have won numerous awards throughout the years and have been located in some of the area’s best and most sought-after communities. These include Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, the Old Village, I’On in Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, and James Island. At the firm’s helm is Steve Kendrick, who, in addition to his extensive experience in architecture and construction, is an advocate for Habitat for Humanity and has had the opportunity to build three Habitat houses.

This featured project is located in the heart of Charleston, by the waterfront on the Wando River. Structures Building completed the project in collaboration with the professionals at Beau Clowney Architects. The firm’s team opted for tall floor-to-ceiling windows, traditional touches, and custom details in order to create this stunning home.

Sea Island Builders

2113 Middle St #100, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482

Established in 2004, Sea Island Builders is a subsidiary of the Fowler Development Company. It is a family-owned and operated practice that uses a design-build approach, which allows it to keep everything in-house. This comprehensive approach also ensures that each of the firm’s projects receives personalized solutions for everything that arises throughout the construction process. The company services Awendaw, Charleston, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, James Island, Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, and West Ashley.

This award winning design-build project is a partnership between Sea Island Builders and Swallowtail Architects – this marsh-front gem is located inside the Cardinal Hill gated community in Mount Pleasant, SC. This custom home sits on Horlbeck Creek on a large secluded lot that reveals itself upon entry. LuAnn McCants led the interior design and selections for the project. Paramount in the design was the creation of a layered experience that revealed itself upon approaching the home. The curved drive provides privacy from the street and begins to open up as the home is approached. Peek views through the understory pique one’s interest and provides glimpses of the pool, marsh and beyond.

Classic Remodeling & Construction, Inc.

1832 River Rd, Johns Island, SC 29455

As its name suggests, Classic offers both extensive remodeling and construction work. Operating out of its office in Johns Island, it is especially regarded for its kitchens, bathrooms, home additions, and outdoor living areas. It draws inspiration from over three decades of industry experience and is composed of a team of administrative staff, designers, and project artisans. The firm particularly takes pride in being Charleston’s only design-build firm that is focused exclusively on residential remodeling.

Located in Daniel Island, this project required the firm to conduct a comprehensive remodel, while adhering to the limitations of the home’s pre-existing structure. For the kitchen, the remodel included installing a large custom hood over the kitchen center island cooktop, relocating the sink, and moving the fridge. Some other great details in the kitchen include its deep blue cabinetry and mirrored tile backsplashes.

Under his leadership, the company has expanded its services to include luxury custom home building.

Located in the heart of Daniel Island, this modern farmhouse is an excellent tribute to the firm’s skill. It spans over 6,000 square feet and contains five bedrooms and bathrooms.
