Louisville is the largest and busiest city in Kentucky. Old Louisville, the city’s historic district, features restored Victorian mansions. In Downtown Louisville, any tourist or resident can easily spot the remarkable buildings that make up Louisville’s cityscape, including the Louisville City Hall, the Jefferson County Courthouse, and The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Many commercial and residential buildings in the city draw inspiration from French Empire, Greek Revival, and Italian Renaissance architecture, but the Modern and Contemporary architectural styles can also be found in the city’s private residences.

This list features custom home builders based in Louisville who predominantly build in the city’s affluent developments, including Locust Creek, Shakes Run, and Norton Commons. We’ve also chosen builders who offer their services and have built throughout Louisville. The builders were chosen and ranked based on years of experience, number of awards received, projects featured in magazines, customer reviews, and value of projects. The background of each firm’s principal was also considered in the rankings.

If you are thinking about building a custom home, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.
