The Best Custom Home Builders in Nebraska

Last updated on July 9th, 2024 at 11:11 am

In Nebraska, homes hold a median value of $166,900. The firms on this list have built residences that carry prices beyond this median price, but they are also more than capable of building homes that are beautiful, affordable, and practical. This list features firms that are led by principals who possess years of construction experience and have built the skilled, hardworking teams that help you make your unique dream home a reality.

Many of these custom home builders also hold affiliations with industry organizations like the Metro Omaha Builders Association (MOBA), Build Omaha, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Others have been featured in publications like Omaha Magazine, From House to Home, Midwest Living, Kitchen and Bath Design, and Edge

If you are thinking about building a custom home, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.

13) Bloomfield Custom Homes

12910 Pierce St. Suite #110, Omaha NE, 68144

Formed as a division of Lockwood Development, Bloomfield Custom Homes was created to help Lockwood Development meet the increasing demand for custom homes. Since Bloomfield’s establishment in 2011, the firm has built and remodeled approximately $7 million worth of custom homes priced at $400,000 and above. Some of these homes exhibit the French, ranch, colonial revival, and Tudor styles. One great example of the firm’s projects is Sterling Ridge Estates, a beautiful French-style home with a spacious interior that’s perfect for entertaining guests. Alongside this home, the firm also built an Omaha residence that was featured in Omaha Magazine.

Currently, Lawrence “Chip” James II guides the firm. A graduate of Drake University, James has real estate experience and specializes in development, brokerage, and management. In 2006, James built his own custom home—a project that served as the inspiration to expand Lockwood Development into the residential custom home market.

12) Thomas David and Fine Homes

1317 S 208th St., Elkhorn, NE 68022

A home building firm with a membership in the Metro Omaha Builders Association (MOBA) and Build Omaha, Thomas David and Fine Homes is a 15-year-old firm that builds about 15 custom homes each year and even had one of its residential projects featured in Omaha World-Herald. The firm favors the ranch, Craftsman, and contemporary styles but one great example of the firm’s projects is a spacious, two-story modern styled home. The balcony offers homeowners a fantastic view and the residence also has wide glass doors and windows that provide ample natural light.

Projects like these are possible thanks to the leadership of principals Dave Tewes and Tom Shafer. Tewes has a background in construction and project management. During his long career, he has been able to do both commercial and residential construction work. Currently, he focuses on the firm’s client relations. Shafer, meanwhile, adds his experience of building hundreds of high-end remodels, additions, and custom homes to the firm’s capabilities.

11) Fulton Construction

3639 N. 39th St., Lincoln, NE 68504

And that organization has led to some absolutely gorgeous Mediterranean, Spanish revival, and modern style homes. The firm once did long-distance work for a family that wanted a new home. Though the process was intricate, difficult, and much of the discussion of the new home came in the form of long-distance phone calls, Fulton Construction still managed to deliver a stunning home.

Currently, this firm is an Energy Star partner and has Steve Fulton at the helm. Fulton has already won the Nebraska Builder of the Year award, but he also has a history as a member and past president of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Lincoln. He is also a member of the Nebraska Green Building Council, the Remodelers Council of Lincoln, and the National Home Builders Association (NHBA) where he works as its Life director.

The home’s open floor plan allows it to capture exceptional views of the backyard pool and green space from all angles.

ADC Homes was founded by partners Steve Taft and Patrick Knobbe. Taft studied engineering before working for a custom home builder in Omaha. As a company with a wide reach for construction, McNeil Company has built many long-lasting relationships that have led to some of the most notable homes and estates in the Omaha area. A great example of the firm’s work is a French Provincial home in Linden Estates. 10,120 square feet wide, this home was inspired by a French chateau found in the south of France. Despite its grand beauty, the home also has a rustic charm. Large floor to ceiling windows were installed to bathe the interiors with as much natural light as possible.

In terms of the exterior, the house exhibits touches of distinct turquoise on the windows, the breakfast hutch, and on the master bedroom plank wood ceiling and tilework.
